St. Patrick's Day

Monday morning everyone was checking out their traps to see if they had caught one.  We of course only got his pants and hats.

After snacking on some fruit, we got to keep the leprechaun hats that the fruit came in.  We then got mathematical. Not only did we sort the marshmallows in a Lucky Charm box.... we counted ALL of the oat pieces.  Over 3,000 in all!

The next day we used SKYPE to talk to a first grade in Alabama to compare their box of cereal to ours.

Skype

Here are some more shots from our Skype call with Mrs. Cantrell.  Technology is amazing!  If anyone has Skype, let me know.  We would love to have you read to us by way of this amazing technology!

Read Across America

We had plans to Skype with our pen pals in Missouri, but the weather spoiled it.  Since they had a snow day, Mrs. Cantrell was nice enough to Skype from her house (in her jammies too) and read us 2 stories.  We can't wait to talk to our pen pals again, but we had a great time with our special guest reader and her 2 daughters.

Medal Awards....

How Many Licks Does It Take To Get To The Center Of The Tootsie Pop?

Yes,  we actually had lollipops.  It was all in the name of science. Kids were tallying every lick to see how many licks it would take.  We actually ran out of time but kids were up in the 200 lick range... I guess we will never know.

Building a 100 Link Chain

Each team had to build a chain using
10 different colors. Each section of the chain had to have 10 links made out of paper.Team members took turns running to the table to get 10 strips of paper.  Communication was key since each team could only have 10 of each color.  The groups did a great job working together to build their chain.  We are now using 80 links from one chain to count down how many days are left of First Grade.
