New Website

I am moving this blog to a new site.  Some teachers told me about Weebly and how user friendly it is. I like how easy it is to upload pictures (blogspot is not as easy).

Please check it out and let me know what  you think!

A glimpse into the room...

Once I get all of the releases signed, it will be much easier to post pictures.  Here are just a few that we took while practicing "Read To Self" and while we were working in our literacy activities.

It's Almost Time

Summer has flown by... I can't believe it is the last weekend before I go back to school officially.  I of course have been back blowing up seat balls, putting things away, re-arranging things, and trying to get ready.  The teachers go back for staff development next week and then before you know it, it will be time for students.  I can't wait until class lists go up so I can meet some new faces for the 2014-2015 school year.

I have been busy traveling this summer.  The Hewitts went to Arizona, Florida, and New Hampshire.  I also took a trip with a friend to New York and New Jersey.  Phew!  I am just tired thinking of it.

I look forward to meeting my new students and seeing my old friends as second graders.

Love, Mrs. Hewitt

B is for Butterfly

Peep Experiments

We did a few experiments with Peeps on Friday.  Do you know what happens when you freeze a Peep overnight?  Ask your child what it was like!  We put Peeps in water, vinegar/baking soda, and Sprite.  We got to watch the chemical reactions and how the color disappeared from the Peeps.

Can you tell what color Peep you have with your eyes closed?  No, but we tried it anyway.

ABC Countdown

Today was A for our countdown to Z and the end of school.  We examined the work of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel.  I showed the kids a virtual tour of the chapel and we talked about all of the paintings on the ceiling.  Then, you guessed it- we did our artwork on the ceiling of our desks.  The kids had a great time and I will get a picture of the work up soon.
