Some of our Bulletin Boards

This is called, "Winter Out My Window". Each student created their own window to the world.

We built snowmen by making one ball for each letter in our last name.

The lights on the tree are our first names.

This was a snow globe Christmas card exchange. We sent out cards to 30 schools and got 30 cards back with some information about their state and school.  We mapped the states  on a smartboard map in the classroom.

This  is our finished Chicka Chicka Boom Boom exchange.  I think we finally got all of the letters from other schools.

Welcome to 2013

I hope everyone had a great vacation.  We came back right into the swing of things.  We have been busy working on ending sound, building and writing short (cvc- consonant-vowel-consonant) words and working on the numbers 1-20.  We have been learning to visualize these numbers in a tens frame to help our mind see the numbers better.  I sent some information about it home, if you have any questions please ask.
Here are some of the words we built.
We are listening to The Three Snow Bears and drawing our favorite part.
We are building snowflakes using pattern block shapes.
We were learning about three dimensional shapes on this computer program.
We are building our words.

Polar Express Day

It was a fabulous day in Kindergarten today.  What a way to end school before vacation.

Before the train came to pick us up, we had a moment of silence with the nation for the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary school.

After that, the train came to pick us up to take us to the North Pole where we met the conductor who read us the story of the Polar Express.

Can't believe it is December!

It's really hard to believe that we are already at December.  Report cards come out on Friday and the holiday break will be here before we know it.  We have been awfully busy working in the classroom.  I thought I would share some recent pictures of us.
We were looking for the missing lower case letters.
Here we needed to find lower case letters that matched the upper case letters.

Everyone loves the smartboard.  We were clapping beats (syllables) in words and graphing them.

We are doing a lot of sound sorts to help us distinguish between beginning sounds.

The sand table is always a fun place to play.

This is Mr. Hewitt's sister who came from England and wanted to see our classroom.

Mr. Hewitt's aunt came for a visit as well.

We love playing in the housekeeping center.

We are working on a Nursery rhyme book for our browsing box.  Kids are making Pat-A-Cake.

Just Curious

I'm always wondering who is reading our blog.... IF you see this posting, could you please send me a note in the green folder to say so.  This way, I will know if I need to re-post information about our blog to remind people to look.

Thanks so much,   Mrs. Hewitt
